The Bavarian Representative Office in Austria

A new contact address for Bavaria in Vienna

Austria is Bavaria’s most important trading partner, and since 2008 this has also been reflected in the business statistics of both states. With the highest share of Bavarian imports and exports and a trade volume already totalling Euro 26 billion, Austria has firmly established itself in first place ahead of the USA, Italy and China. The opening of the 22nd, and newest of Bavaria’s foreign representations, in 2010 is therefore only a logical development. Thomas Gindele, Managing Director of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vienna, will not only devote more attention to the foreign trade relations of Bavarian companies in Austria, but also and in particular act as an important contact partner for Austrian companies interested in setting up facilities in Bavaria.

Austria in Bavaria and Bavaria in Austria

It is not imports and exports alone that reflect the close business relations between the two regions. Given their geographical and cultural proximity, both Austrian and Bavarian firms can easily build up a second foothold in their respective neighbouring countries, with a view to gaining even more benefit from each other’s markets. Besides 82,000 Austrian citizens, there are already some 400 Austrian companies based in Bavaria, including such renowned names as Binder Holz, Klausner Group and OMV. In the other direction, Adidas, BayWa, Kathrein-Werke, Krones, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, Osram and Siemens already have branch offices in the Alpine Republic.

Bavaria and Austria – more than just business written big

But all in all, it is probably thanks to Bavaria’s longstanding and deep historical roots with Austria that a very special and friendly relationship has developed between the two states. Their similarities in language, scenery, culture and customs make sure you always feel at home even when away from home – and the Austrian Heurige wine tavern really is the perfect complement to the Bavarian beer garden!
