The Bavarian Representative Office in Canada
About us
In January, 1989, the governments of Bavaria and Québec signed an agreement. This led to the establishment in Montreal of the state of Bavaria’s office for Canada. The office’s brief is to foster business and cultural interchanges and ties as well as to support the Bavarian companies in Canada.
Canada in Bavaria
Including such international heavyweights as Bombardier, CAE, Nortel, Magna International and Alcan, and such fast-developing high-techs as Matrox, more than 20 Canadian companies maintain subsidiaries in Bavaria. Located in Munich is the Canadian consulate, in which the consuls of the provinces of Ontario and Alberta also maintain offices. In 1996, Québec, our partner province, set up an office in Munich. This was upgraded to a senior office (Generalvertretung) in July 2006.
Bavaria in Canada
Bavarian exports accounted for € 1.26 billion, ranking Canada 28th among Bavaria’s markets. The list of major Bavarian companies operating in Canada includes Linde, BMW, Siemens, Adidas, Süd-Chemie, Liebherr Aerospace, MAN and Pfleiderer. Bavarian and Canadian communities have entered two partnerships.
