Founded in 2007 and maintained by the Prague-based German-Czech Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the state of Bavaria’s office in the Czech Republic is headed by Bernard Bauer, the Chamber’s executive director.
The Czech Republic in Bavaria
With an annual volume of trade of €11.5 billion, the Czech Republic is Bavaria’s most important partner in central and eastern Europe. Czech companies have invested €113 million in the state, in which some 15,000 Czechs reside. Also fostering intercultural ties between Bavaria and the Czechs are such institutions as the Czech Center and the Czech Republic’s consulate general in Munich, as well as the 62 partnerships entered into by districts and communities in the Czech Republic and in Bavaria.
Bavaria in the Czech Republic
Bavaria’s exports to the Czech Republic amounted to €4.0 billion in 2009, making its eastern neighbor the state’s tenth most important international market. In 2009, Bavaria imported goods worth €7.5 billion from the Czech Republic, ranking the country fifth in this worldwide category. As of the end of 2005, Bavarian investments in the Czech Republic amounted to €3.2 billion. The long list of Bavarian companies operating successfully in the country includes BMW, Linde, Allianz, Siemens, Burda, Knorr-Bremse, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, Osram, Rohde & Schwarz, Roland Berger, TÜV Süd, Wacker Chemie and Vltava Labe Press / Verlagsgruppe Passau.
