Founded in 2001, the state of Bavaria’s office in India is located in Bangalore.

Some 50 Indian companies—including Dr. Reddy, Wipro, TCS and HCL—have set up operations in Bavaria. India is one of Bavaria’s most important trading partners in Asia, as the annual volume of trade—some €2.1 billion in 2010—details. With some 7,000 resident Indians—of them some 3,000 in Munich—Bavaria has one of Germany’s largest Indian communities. In 2002, India commissioned its consulate general in Munich.

More than 350 Bavarian companies have entered into joint ventures in India, including such household names as Siemens, BMW, Allianz and MAN. Bavaria’s exports to India grew 21.7% in a single year—2010. The close relationship between Bavaria and the Indian province of Karnataka led in 2007 to their entering into a partnership.
