About us
The State of Bavaria’s Office in South Africa was founded in 2007, and is maintained by the Johannesburg-based Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The State of Bavaria’s representative in South Africa is Matthias Boddenberg, the Chamber’s Chief Executive.

Bavaria’s business community has a great reputation in South Africa. That’s thanks to the community’s more than 100 years of successful operation in the country. Today more than 40 Bavarian companies, including such well-respected names as Allianz, Audi, BMW, EADS, MAN, Munich Re and Siemens are based there.
South Africa in Bavaria
Bilateral trade amounting to some €1.7 billion makes South Africa Bavaria’s second most important trading partner in Africa. Bavaria’s exports to South Africa come to some €1.1 billion (the state’s largest total for the continent), with its imports amounting to some €570 million.
