Bavaria and Switzerland: two ideal partners
Switzerland and Bavaria are strong trading partners. And this is reflected first and foremost in their reciprocal business figures. With a trading volume of more than Euro 7.3 billion, Switzerland has since 2009 managed to earn itself a place among the Top 10 most important trading partners for Bavaria.
On the strength of Switzerland’s geographical, linguistic and cultural proximity to the European Union and Germany as well as their numerous treaties, it is a simple matter for both Swiss and Bavarian firms to build up a second foothold in their neighbouring country, in order to benefit even more from their respective markets.
Over 400 Bavarian companies already have a base in Switzerland. And vice versa, there are some 200 Swiss firms in Bavaria, including such renowned companies as Swiss Life, Swiss Re, Sandoz, Roche and UBS. Their corporate culture, quality of products and reliability as business partners stand for the success of Bavarian as well as Swiss firms worldwide.
But the opportunities of the respective markets – in particular in high-tech sectors like, for example, medical technology, biotechnology or electromobility – are far from exhausted on both sides. In order to highlight these opportunities and send out a further signal of the close bond linking the countries, Bavaria is opening a representative office in Zürich in 2010.
Bavaria welcomes not just Swiss chocolate, the spicy cheese and top quality clocks and watches. The Allianz Arena in Munich was, for instance, built by Swiss architects. Bavaria and Switzerland share such core values as deep-rooted ties to nature and all things original, the diversity of culture and customs, mutual tolerance and a high standard of living. That is also why the Swiss feel particularly at home in Bavaria. Besides the many Swiss companies, more than 6,000 Swiss citizens have in the meantime chosen Bavaria as their adopted home country.
