Gerhard Schulz / Ingram Micro Distribution GmbH
Ingram Micro Distribution GmbH was founded in Munich over 35 years ago under its then name of Macrotron. Today, the company is the leading wholesaler for information technology products and a wholly owned subsidiary of Ingram Micro, the world’s biggest IT distributor. “The best way that technology can take”, is our motto. What we want is to bring goods from the producer to the consumer: as quickly as possible and by the most cost-effective route. That is how we describe our core competence: distribution.
In 1999, the company invested in an extensive logistics center in Straubing. For Ingram Micro, this town in Lower Bavaria has proved to be an excellent starting point for distributing goods quickly and reliably. Thanks to its good location in Southern Germany, Straubing makes an ideal sales platform to the East as well as the West of Europe. The Straubing Sand Industrial Park is very well served by three modes of transport: The site is linked to a well developed road and rail transport network as well as to Munich Airport. The Industrial Park in Straubing also has a port.
In 2007, we laid the foundation stone for a second logistics center in Straubing. The construction of this second depot at the Straubing site will mean that Europe’s largest logistics center is being developed in Lower Bavaria on a total area of 80,000 sqm. We have deliberately chosen not to follow the trend of moving to a low-wage country, but opted rather to extend the site in Germany. We consider the competence of our employees, coupled with their great loyalty and reliability, not to forget the strong sense of stability within the workforce, to be a lasting competitive advantage.
