Invest in Bavaria and the city of Weiden agree to intensify cooperation

16.12.2011

MUNICH / WEIDEN    At a meeting held in Weiden, the Lord Mayor of the city of Weiden, Kurt Seggewiß, and Invest in Bavaria, the Business Promotion Agency of the State of Bavaria, have agreed to step up cooperation on the recruitment of new business.

Dr. Johann Niggl, Head of Invest in Bavaria, was able to satisfy himself that the city of Weiden with its focus on medical technology, the haulage industry and railway technology was well positioned for the future. “Many companies in Weiden are operating in forward-pointing sectors and offer great growth potential. From here, they have access to specialised component suppliers and competent workers”, commented Lord Mayor Seggewiß. In particular the large number of young people studying at vocational schools in Weiden and the expansion of the Education and Technology Campus at Amberg-Weiden University of Applied Sciences ensures a steady supply of skilled workers for these companies. “A clear regional profile is crucial for attracting companies to the region”, Dr. Niggl confirmed, pointing out that through Invest in Bavaria the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs also helps to cultivate established structures of existing companies and to develop their expansion plans.

The joint project to market Weiden and its core competences was a central theme of the talks and the visits to the industrial parks that followed. So coordinated activities are in the pipeline for seeking investors in the railway sector.

The city of Weiden had engaged the company Railistics to advise it on how best to develop logistics and railway technology as top fields of competence and logistics experts from this company also took part in the talks.
